Hacienda Na Xamena was here before luxury hotels in Ibiza existed as a concept. Perched 165 metres above the sea on the wild northwest coast, the property opened in 1971 and has maintained its status as one of the most dramatic hotel positions in Europe ever since. The cliffs around it are UNESCO-protected; the views from the terraced pools are genuinely vertiginous; the silence, interrupted only by wind and sea, is total.
The hotel has been thoughtfully modernised over the decades without sacrificing the elemental drama that made it extraordinary. The wellness programme u2014 among the most comprehensive in Ibiza u2014 uses the natural environment as its primary therapeutic resource: cliff walks, open-air yoga, cold-water therapy in the sea below.
Our Opinion
Hacienda Na Xamena does not need to work to justify its position in the Sandbeds Collection. The cliff alone is enough. But the property has earned its place through decades of consistent investment in quality, through a wellness programme that understands what guests come to cliffs for (perspective, vertigo, the feeling of being very small in a very large world), and through a service culture that is warm without being effusive u2014 appropriate to a property where the setting makes performative hospitality seem beside the point.
