How to get to Mykonos?
Two main options: fly to Mykonos Airport (JMK) —direct flights from Athens (45 min), and in summer direct flights from London, Frankfurt, Zurich, Amsterdam, and major European cities— or take the ferry from Athens (Piraeus) in 5–6 hours by conventional ferry or 2.5 hours by fast catamaran. Direct flights increase significantly during peak season. From Spain, the most common option is to fly via Athens or take a seasonal direct flight.
What is the best month to visit Mykonos?
June is the most honest answer: all the beach clubs are open, prices are more reasonable than July and August, the Meltemi wave is less intense, and the atmosphere is already at peak season. September is the second choice for those who appreciate warmer water (25°C), fewer crowds, and lower prices. July and August are for those who want the most intense social scene and are willing to accept the higher prices and the wind.
What is Meltemi?
The Meltemi is the north-northwest wind that sweeps across the Cyclades in summer, mainly in July and August. It can blow at Beaufort 4–6 for several days in a row. It's the enemy of anchorages in open coves and of the Nammos party when it's gusty. It's a blessing for cooler weather in August and for kitesurfers in Ftelia. For beachgoers: the south-facing beach clubs (Psarou, Paraga, Super Paradise) are sheltered from the Meltemi.
Is Mykonos better than Ibiza?
They're not direct competitors: they're destinations with radically different identities. Ibiza has the most established global electronic music scene (Ushuaia, Pacha, Hi, Amnesia) and the most productive beach clubs. Mykonos has Cycladic architecture, Scorpios (which has no equivalent in Ibiza), the Aegean Sea, and Delos. If electronic music is the absolute priority: Ibiza.
